The Atlas car was built in Springfield, Massachusetts from 1907-1911 (and became the Atlas-Knight for 1912–1913). Motor Encyclopedia

After Harry Knox left the company that had been building Knox cars in Springfield, he established the Knox Motor Truck Company in 1905 to produce Atlas commercial vehicles. His former partners at his previous firm took him to court over the name. After he was forbidden from using the Knox name, he formed the Atlas Motor Car Company in late 1907.

Today is an auspicious day

Today is an auspicious day as we open up a new website based on a passion for all things auto, that I shared with my Dad, who would have been 98 years old today. Mum and Dad bought their first car in 1953 just after my older brother was born, and the wheel fell off the sidecar while Mum and baby were sitting in it, (they had just stopped). Mum refused to go in it anymore and Dad decided they should change from their motorcycling youth to a more refined form of transport, now they had a family. Their first car was actually a 1950 Ford Prefect. It had an 1,172 cc (71.5 cu in) side-valve engine with thermocirculation radiator (no pump) and the ability to be started by a crank handle, should the battery not have sufficie...
